The death toll on the Nepal-Tibet border has climbed from 7 to 389 in under 48 hours, and more than 900 people are still unaccounted for. An ice and rock avalanche dammed the Lhende Khola on Wednesday morning. When the blockage failed, the surge travelled the first 22 kilometers at an average speed of 193 kilometers per hour. Villages, the Rasuwagadhi border crossing, five hydropower plants and 42 kilometers of road were destroyed. Among the 517 foreign nationals missing are 177 Indians, 63 Americans, 34 Australians, 33 Britons and 25 Canadians, most of them travelling the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage route. Rescue teams have flown out over 1,400 people, but many communities remain reachable only by helicopter.

More than 30 Aussies could be missing after terrifying flash flooding on the Nepal-Tibet border killed at least 160 people – with casualties rising.
At least 160 people have been killed in Nepal after a massive flash flood tore through

the border region with Tibet on Wednesday.

It’s been reported that as many as 34 Australians could be among almost 500 tourists missing. Around 400 of them are from outside Nepal, including 133 Indians pilgraims and 11 Brits. So far, one Australian has been officially confirmed as missing.

Images have shown houses submerged in mud and water in Nepal’s Nuwakot region, one of the worst affected areas.

Severe flash floods have struck Nepal’s Himalayan border region, leaving several people dead and hundreds missing as rescue teams search devastated areas for survivors. The flooding swept through settlements near the Tibet border, carrying mud and debris and damaging homes, roads, bridges and power infrastructure. More than 100 Indians, around 90 Nepalis, at least three Americans and over 10 British nationals were reportedly among those missing.
